Why a Premium Strap is the Most Significant Upgrade for Your Watch
Many enthusiasts spend thousands on a timepiece only to settle for a factory strap that lacks character. In 2026, the trend in horology has shifted toward personalisation. Swapping to a leather watch strap or a military-style single-pass strap is not just about utility — it is about context. A leather strap transforms a diver into a dress watch for a wedding; a NATO band readies a chronograph for a weekend in the bush.
The Right Strap For The Right Moment — A Real Example
Imagine you own a Seiko Alpinist. For a Saturday morning trek through the Riverina, you need the security of a military-style single-pass strap — if a spring bar fails, the watch stays on your wrist. For a Saturday night dinner, that same watch requires the sophistication of a brown top-grain leather strap. At TASCONY, we design our range so one watch can serve every part of your life.

TASCONY Vs Mass-Market Imports — What You Are Actually Buying
A $500 watch on a $100 TASCONY strap looks significantly more expensive than a $5,000 watch on a frayed, low-quality
band. Quality hardware and finished edges are the silentmarkers of a true enthusiast.
Technical Compatibility — Finding Your Lug Width
Lug width is the distance in millimetres between the two protruding lugs on your watch case where the strap attaches. Getting this right is the difference between a professional finish and a DIY gap. Use our comprehensive watch strap sizing guide for full instructions, or follow these steps:
- Use a ruler or digital callipers — not a phone camera app, which can be inaccurate by 1–2mm.
- Measure the gap at the top of the watch case, between the two lugs where the strap meets the case.
- Both top and bottom lug pairs use the same width — either side gives the correct measurement.
- Your strap width equals your lug width. A 20mm lug gap needs a 20mm strap.
- If between sizes (e.g. 21mm lug), size down — a 20mm strap fits a 21mm lug cleanly.
TASCONY stocks the four most common lug widths:
- 18mm watch straps — standard for smaller dress watches and some Casio models.
- 20mm watch straps — the most common size. Fits most Rolex, Omega, Seiko SKX and 5-series, Hamilton
Khaki, Tissot PRX, and Tissot Le Locle. - 22mm watch straps — ideal for larger divers and modern chronographs. Fits Tudor Black Bay, Seiko Prospex,
and most 44–46mm case watches. - 24mm watch straps —designed for bold, oversized timepieces that require a substantial presence.
Not sure? Call us, email us, or use live chat and we will confirm the correct size for your specific watch before you order.
